THE NAKED SUN
A voice from the puritanical past
complains: Aren’t you ashamed,
you prissy hussy, why don’t you
ever get dressed?
Proud of her nudity, the sun explains,
she’s trying to set an example
of freedom and liberation
from repressive habits in the culture.
God said let there be light
when the world began,
and she’s just following orders.
She claims she delights in keeping
everybody warm and sincerely regrets
sometimes causing melanomas,
and, sorry about the solar eclipse,
she explains, she has no control over it—
it’s probably caused by a teen-aged hacker in Azerbaijan.
